WEEK FIVE: Setting up a system for growth
AGENDA
1. Welcome Marsha back from her "sabattical" from worship team
2. Run another song writing exercise and figure out a way for us to continually improve in this area
LEADER'S COMMENTARY
The meeting ended up being very different from the original agenda as only two people showed up and both weren't at the meeting the previous week. One had accidently double booked things last week and the other was still taking a short break from worship team to finish a big part of her PhD program. The two present were the more experienced leaders in the group so I decided to talk with them about what people's comments were from last week (members of the team hangout outside of meetings). The feedback was that generally it was good but it might be a little too much too soon. One of the two is an experienced songwritter so we started talking about different ways to engage the team in a more basic level.
**Aside**The overall objective of encouraging songwritting / any form of original creative expression is so that we as a team can learn together how we worship / express & engage with the music we play & sing. By better understanding how we worship we hope to be better worship leaders at being able to invite others to join us in worshipping with us and not just singing out of habit.
After much discussion and a trip to the bookstore we created some composition exercise workbooks for the team and will be leading people through two exercise a week. The two exercises for this week are:
1. Pick a song & analyze why the lyrics speak to you
2. Pick one of these lines and frame an 8 line lyric around it:
-"in the middle of the night"
OR
-"still you're turning water into wine"
We will discuss them together the next week.
